CapacityPlus at AIDS 2012
The XIX International AIDS Conference (July 22-27 in Washington, DC), brings together leading scientists, public health experts, policy-makers, and the HIV-affected community to translate recent scientific advances into action.
A trained, motivated, and well-supported health workforce is required for the delivery of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services—but access is hindered by a critical shortage of health workers in many countries around the world. CapacityPlus helps partner countries address their health workforce shortages and is developing tools that all countries can use to ensure there are enough properly trained and qualified health workers to provide access to information about HIV/AIDS, and prevention and treatment services.
Several CapacityPlus staff members will participate in the event and share CapacityPlus’s work. On Monday, July 23, Kate Tulenko will participate in a satellite event sponsored by the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, Nurse Models of HIV Care and Treatment: Addressing Health Workforce Shortages for Long-Term Sustainability. On Wednesday, July 25, Wanda Jaskiewicz will present a poster, Increasing Community Health Worker Productivity to Strengthen Effectiveness of HIV/AIDS Programs.
On Thursday, July 26, CapacityPlus will host a satellite event, Achieving Excellence in the Supply Chain Workforce: The People that Deliver Global Partnership. This interactive event will explore the vital role of the health supply chain workforce in the realization of global and country health goals, including the Millennium Development Goals for combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. The event will highlight the efforts of the People that Deliver global partnership, an initiative to promote workforce excellence in supply chain management, which is steered by USAID, the WHO, and the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition. Pape Gaye, president and CEO of IntraHealth International, CapacityPlus lead partner, will moderate the event. CapacityPlus’s Rebecca Bailey will present on Human Resources for Health and Health Supply Chains-Current State of Affairs. Benoît Silve of Institut Bioforce, and chair of the People that Deliver Board, will present on The People that Deliver Initiative. Others will present country examples from Burkina Faso, Namibia, and Tanzania.
