Using iHRIS Software to Track Botswana's Health Workforce
Without current data on health workers, countries cannot ensure that the right provider is in the right place with the right skills. In Botswana, the Ministry of Health is partnering with CapacityPlus to implement iHRIS Manage, CapacityPlus’s free, Open Source software for maintaining information on health worker deployment and attrition.
The latest edition of CapacityPlus Voices, “Tracking all health workers in Botswana,” highlights recent progress at the Ministry of Health on a human resources information system for all health workers in the country. Kabelo Bitsang, iHRIS administrator at the Ministry of Health, explains how Botswana is customizing CapacityPlus’s iHRIS software to track and manage the health workforce.
“Our next big step will be rolling iHRIS out to the districts,” says Bitsang. “I have learned a lot working on this project and believe that it will make a big difference to my country.”
The previous edition of CapacityPlus Voices, “Faith-based organizations: Using HR management to support health workers,” highlighted the role of human resources management in the health sector.
